Topic 4 The Future Tenses
There are 4 tenses in the future time. You have learnt the Simple Future Tense and
the Future Continuous Tense in Gear 1 and 2.
Hence, there are two tenses to be reviewed and the Future Perfect Tense
and the Future Perfect Continuous Tense to be viewed here.

The Verb Pattern
a) The Simple
Future Tense (the Simple Present / Past
Tense)
i) We use the Simple Future Tense to talk about an action that will
take place in the future.
[Leena] will buy a computer next
month.
ii) To predict
a future action / event
[The prices of most goods] will go
up after election.

b) The Future Continuous Tense (Present / Past Continuous Tense)
We use the Future Continuous Tense to show an action
which will be going on at a certain time in the future.
The Verb Pattern

[Tina] will be playing (zero-
point) with (us) at 5 pm this coming Sunday.
[They] will have a great time
together.
[Ashiah] will pass up (her project)
next Wednesday.

with (her friends) at 3 pm tomorrow.
c) The Future Perfect Tense ( the Present / Past Perfect Tense )
We use the Future Perfect Tense to show an action that
will be completed at a certain time in
the future.
It is usually used with a time expression
like:
by next
Monday / week / month / year
by the time
she reaches there

[She] will be attending (his
birthday party) next Saturday.
[Luke] will have written (all
the invitation cards) by next Monday.
d)
The Future Perfect Tense
Alina’s mother weeds the garden every
day.
She is weeding the garden now.
She has weeded the garden for an hour
already.
If she weeds the garden for half an hour, she will have been weeding it for
one and a half hours.
